Valery conducts day-to-day management of the practice’s operations. He specialises in mediation, corporate, insolvency and criminal law and has considerable experience in negotiations to settle major commercial disputes and corporate conflicts. He has devised a legal protection strategy and managed the implementation of integrated projects to counter the hostile takeovers of a number of major Russian companies.

He is the co-author of a chapter in the book ‘International Civil Fraud’, published in the UK in 2013.

Projects

  • Valery was involved in devising and implementing a successful strategy and tactics to protect the shareholders of a national Russian chain of hypermarkets in a corporate conflict with other shareholders, including those of one of the largest foreign investment funds and a major Russian bank. Her work led to the biggest deal in the history of the Russian retail sector. This was concluded in 2011 and was valued at USD 1,14 billion.
  • Developed a successful strategy for protecting the rights of the shareholders of one of St. Petersburg’s oldest historical trade centres (USD 500 million) from a hostile takeover by another shareholder who had filed 40 lawsuits and attempted to initiate an unfounded criminal prosecution.
  • Drew up a strategy for the judicial and criminal protection of the interests of a major Russian bank when creditors attempted to unlawfully avoid settling debt. By implementing the strategy and mediating, a project valued at RUB 1 billion was concluded on favourable terms for the client.
